If you’re not a fan of pirate file sharing and downloading services, there are online streaming services that are growing in popularity every year. They may require a paid subscription, but they offer plenty of benefits. Other streaming services in Slovakia include Voyo, which came to the attention of Slovak users in August 2011. This video on demand (VOD) service is owned by TV Markiza and after its launch it offered a free archive of programmes from its production as well as live streaming of original productions and sports broadcasts. Over the following years, the service turned into a pay-per-view service and started offering more than 1 000 films and series.
Voyo can be considered the “Slovak Netflix”, which in July 2022 was the most popular streaming service in Slovakia with 400 000 satisfied paying customers. Since 2021, it even offers original series and miniseries that are only available on this platform. Voyo offers only one kind of subscription. HBO Max
HBO Max is a popular streaming service that offers critically acclaimed original content. You’ll find the biggest blockbusters from HBO, DC, Warner Bros, Cartoon Network and many more all in one place. Surely no one needs to be introduced to their biggest successes like Game of Thrones, Dragonborn, Harry Potter or The Matrix. The service offers all its content in Full HD quality.
The service promises at least 40 new titles every month and the addition of more than 20 major motion pictures from Warner Bros and its partner studios. You can choose between monthly and annual subscriptions. Monthly will set you back €6.99 and you can cancel at any time. An annual one comes out to €54.99 and you’ll save 34% on it. HBO max is also a great choice for families as it offers a large number of movies and series for children.

Netflix
A streaming service that certainly needs no introduction. It is perhaps the most popular online streaming service used by millions of users worldwide. It offers a large number of movies and series, where a large part of them are its original titles. Titles such as Money Heist, The Crow, The Witchers, Stranger Things and many more are certainly worth mentioning. We can’t forget to mention that there are plenty of Slovak and Czech films on Netflix.
The subscription price is based on the picture quality and the number of devices you want to watch the service on at the same time. This is a monthly subscription that you can cancel at any time. You can choose between payment by credit card, PayPal or even a gift card, which you can find in several shops in Slovakia.

Amazon Prime
Amazon’s streaming service Amazon Prime has found a rich user base since its launch in 2005. It includes dozens of original titles (The Grand Tour, Rings of Power, Coming America 2, …), but also a wide selection of series, documentaries and movies. The advantage of Amazon Prime is that you can also watch titles offline by logging in with the app and downloading selected titles to your iPhone, iPad, tablet or Android device. Although the Amazon Prime homepage doesn’t offer Slovak language for logging in and registering, you can easily set it to English. Amazon Prime only started adding Czech subtitles and dubbing a couple of years ago (you won’t find Slovak), so if you don’t know English, you won’t find as much choice here as with competitors.
Amazon Prime offers one subscription option. It will set you back €5.99 per month, which is relatively cheaper than other streaming services. The advantage is a 30-day free trial. For the subscription fee, the service offers viewing on up to three devices simultaneously, ad-free viewing, and most titles in HD or Full HD quality. However, some also boast 4K Ultra HD quality.

Apple TV+
Additionally, Apple has debuted its own streaming platform. Its content mostly consists of its own unique productions. There are a tonne of comedies, crime stories, sci-fi, and documentaries to choose from, but fans of animation will also not be disappointed. The benefit is that you can watch on up to six devices at once. Aside from excellent picture and sound quality, Apple TV+ subscribers can download content for offline viewing.
Late last year, a wave of price increases for streaming services hit the service as well. Its price increased by up to 43%. A subscription works out at €9.99 per month and you also get a free seven-day trial. If you buy an Apple-branded device, you’ll get Apple TV+ for free for three months. Apple Music’s student plan comes with free Apple TV+ for its users.

It is owned by The Walt Disney Company and has gained popularity especially among Disney, Pixar, National Geographic, Marvel and Star Wars fans. You’ll find exclusive Disney+ movies, series, and original works that you won’t find on any other streaming platform. The benefit of the service is the ability to watch on up to four devices simultaneously and download content for offline viewing.
Disney+ offers high-quality picture and sound for its subscribers, including HDR, 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos. You can choose from monthly and annual subscriptions only.
